Originating in the American southwest and Mexico, known also as the ground tomato or the Mexican green tomato. Extends from cherry to plum size and can be sold green, although the fruit does ripen which gives it a yellowish tinge and can also turn a slight shade of purple. Utilise the fruit in much the same way as you would a tomato although, take into account it is slightly more tart and has firmer constitution throughout. Ideal for salads and salsa’s, can also be used in soups and stews as is throughout many parts of Mexico.
